Dukkha or Sukkha? Bitter or Sweet? We all know it’s not that simple. It was the best of times it was the worst of times is more like how the tale goes. Yet we attempt to create definitions of people, places and things in an effort to negotiate these complexities and makes sense of a sea of information. Life is paradoxically perplexing to say the least, and simply defies definition. Nonetheless, the wounded mind continues to think in cycles of this or that’s – polarizing to one extreme or the other and vacillating frenetically between sides. Am I good or am I bad? Is this right or is this wrong? He loves me, He loves me not? It’s a never -ending game of ping- pong that keeps the head spinning all day (life) long! In Curriculum Aum, defining means something entirely different than forced or finite classifications and aims to re-invigorate the playful curiosity in the exploration of meaning. To define, we focus inward on the verification of sensations in a vastly phenomenological field. We make somatic files based on our here and now experiences to become more intimately connected with the interplay of elements in varying environments. When we o.rder w.hat’s n.eeded in our lives, we begin to make sense of our thoughts and emotions as patterns of interpretation. This style of defining puts “this or that” codification tendencies to good use. In the discovery of aspirations we author authenticity in a compendium of feelings. As Lucille Ball says, “It’s a helluva start, being able to recognize what makes you happy” and this is the essence of Self-define, Self-design.
